The Ginza shopping district in Tokyo consistently impresses with its remarkable variety of buildings designed for world-renowned brands. One standout example is the store for the Italian fashion house Loro Piana, celebrated for its exceptional cashmere and other fabrics. This characteristic is symbolized by the building’s gracefully curved façade, reminiscent of smooth fabric.
While many fashion brand stores prioritize visual aesthetics in their design, the architect here was inspired by the tactile sensations of touching the brand’s products. He aimed to convey the feeling of touch visually, resulting in the image of soft fabric billowing in the wind.
The façade consists of mirrored steel plates, standing 56 meters tall, although the usable space is only 21 meters high. The remaining 35 meters are hollow, giving the impression that the lightweight fabric is simply "floating" in the air.
Notably, nearly 85% of the interior materials are textiles from Loro Piana’s collections.
