Architectural Experiment at Kanagawa Institute of TechnologyThe KAIT Plaza is an entirely open, white space created to address the campus’s lack of relaxation areas. It’s a place where you can sit, lie down, or spend time however you wish. The main purpose, however, is to allow visitors to subjectively experience the passage of time and immerse themselves in contemplation and reflection.
Rectangular openings in the roof — 59 in total — let light in, creating an intriguing geometric play of shadow. These openings also allow rain and wind to enter, fostering a natural connection with the surrounding environment. The floor is designed with a special surface that quickly dries, ensuring comfort even after rain.
