Azabudai Hills
In 2023, Tokyo marked the long-awaited opening of the Azabudai Hills project, the result of extensive redevelopment efforts by Mori Building Co., Ltd. This initiative began in 1989, involving 30 years of discussions with hundreds of local landowners to ensure that their interests were considered. The goal was to create a community that residents and their families would want to return to after the project’s completion. Impressively, over 90% of former residents and businesses opted to return to the revamped area.

The complex is designed as a model of an "eco-friendly and thriving" community, where different aspects of life are seamlessly integrated. This vision is evident in the architecture, which features fluid transitions between walls, roofs, greenery, and buildings, creating a harmonious environment.

What can you find in this new development? It boasts 214,500 square meters of office space, 24,000 square meters of parks, 1,400 residential apartments, and approximately 150 shops and restaurants. The complex also includes a school, two temples, and hotel accommodations. A highlight is the Mori JP Tower, standing at 330 meters tall, making it the tallest building in Japan. Notably, the entire complex is powered 100% by renewable energy sources.

Seismic safety is a key focus, with buildings designed to include earthquake-resistant features that can minimize movement during strong quakes, even those similar in magnitude to the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. In case of a disaster, the Mori JP Tower can fully supply electricity to the entire complex through backup generators.
